Don't Go Back to Sleep

The following is a translation of a poem by Rumi that has resonated with me since I first read it several years ago. I came upon it once again the other day and wanted to share it with you:

The early breeze at dawn
is the keeper of secrets.

Don’t go back to sleep!

It is time for meditation,
time to find what
is your real need.

Don’t go back to sleep!

The door of the One
is open, always.

Don’t go back to sleep!

I’m particularly struck by the commanding nature of the poem, as if I’m being grabbed by my collar and shook into waking up and staying awake, a sort of frustrated pleading, “please, can’t you see how simple it is?!”

So you may take this poem and interpret it through your own lens. What does it speak to you?

The door

is
always open.

Don’t

go

back

to

sleep!

***On a final note, I’ve added an option at the end of these blog posts for you to make a small contribution if you’d like. Please only do so if you feel moved to, and know that your donation goes directly toward helping me continue to provide affordable individual guidance as well as create new content, such as this blog, in the name of increased well-being and reduced psychological suffering. One particular project I’m currently working on is a book that encapsulates my psychological, philosophical, and spiritual perspective on getting to know oneself deeply and getting out of one’s own way. If you’re so inclined, your contribution would support these efforts and would be greatly appreciated (click the button below to donate). Thank you for being here!
