"True Self" Paradox

This Saturday, 9/4/21, at 11:00am CST, I am hosting a 3-hour virtual workshop called Finding Your “True Self.” I would love to have you join. And feel free to pass this along to someone who may be interested in participating. Here’s a link for more info and for signing up (click the date for the sign-up link): Learn More Here

The “True Self” notion is a tricky one and, in the workshop, we will explore a few different core versions of ourselves (spoiler: the Story Self and the Sense Self) that combine to define a new True Self in every moment. Below is a sort of prosaic poem emphasizing the paradox of the search for one’s True Self.

THE SEARCH FOR SELF

I can never have
but always am
my True Self.

My desire to have, to understand, etc.,
”it,”
implicitly creates an illusive boundary of distinction
between “me” and “it.”

How can “I” have or know “it”
when I am “it”?

I can’t.

But I can try.

***On a final note, I’ve added an option at the end of these blog posts for you to make a small contribution if you’d like. Please only do so if you feel moved to, and know that your donation goes directly toward helping me continue to provide affordable individual guidance as well as create new content, such as this blog, in the name of increased well-being and reduced psychological suffering. One particular project I’m currently working on is a book that encapsulates my psychological, philosophical, and spiritual perspective on getting to know oneself deeply and getting out of one’s own way. If you’re so inclined, your contribution would support these efforts and would be greatly appreciated (click the button below to donate). Thank you for being here!
